Sustainable Solutions

A workable waste system connects collection with appropriate treatment, reliable operations and real demand for recovered materials. Sustainable Solutions explores those connections at community level.

Project conceptResources and resilience
The purpose

A practical starting point.

Develop practical waste and resource management concepts suited to local waste streams, service needs and operating capacity.

Project planning

Workstreams to develop.

01

Understand waste streams and service gaps

Coordinate information on collection coverage, material types, existing operators and community priorities.

02

Assess recovery and treatment options

Compare collection, sorting, recycling and composting approaches. Other treatment options, including energy recovery, would require specialist assessment of suitability, costs and approvals.

03

Build the operating and market plan

Research equipment and service providers, potential outlets for recovered materials, operating costs and arrangements for community participation.
